I. Name Game

• In our first go-around, give your name and major.  Tell us about a hobby (do you sing? write poetry?) or just something in general that you like to do (i.e., Carmen likes to take naps though she seldom can).
• Please remember names as we go around the room.
• We start the official 1-point name game today... who will volunteer first?

• Thank you for your comments on "Why I Write."  Your ideas and writing styles were very inspiring!

IV. McGraw-Hill and Pannapacker Discussions​
With a partner:

1. Describe something you agreed with in the readings and explain why.
2. Describe something you disagreed with in the readings and explain why.

The purpose of these discussions is to flesh out more ideas and arguments for your writing.  Deepening your writing depends on deep conversations, not rules and formulas!


V. The FIVE In-Class Writing Tasks

1. Come up with a witty title if you have not done so already
2. Name the author and title and do an APA in-text citation with it
3. Insert a quotation (just make an asterisk). It must have a lead-in and follow-up (without hedging).  For more, click here.

5. Rewrite your introduction (write on paper or send to [email protected]).  Click here for ideas.
