Born March 20, 1915
Died October 9, 1973

Major influence on Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Tina Turner. When asked about her music and about rock and roll, she said, "Oh, these kids and rock and roll — this is just sped up rhythm and blues. I've been doing that forever". She had a stroke in 1970, suffered from diabetes, and died of a second stroke in 1973, penniless and destitute with no grave marker until a 2008 charity event. In 2017, she was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
